We recently had to evacuate from our hometown due to hurricane Dorian and wanted to find somewhere that would be safe for our family and out of harms way. We searched online for campgrounds and stumbled upon the Richmond North / Kings Dominion KOA Campground located in Doswell, VA and decided to give it a shot.
The campground was close to a 3 hour drive from our hometown in North Carolina and since we were evacuating we traveled with our two german shepherds. The highlight of our drive to KOA was passing Airstream of Virginia and McGeorge’s Rolling Hills RV in Ashland, Va. Renovating an airstream is on our bucket list of campers to add to our fleet and I have never been inside of one so this will give me the opportunity to see what they are all about.
We arrived to the KOA around 5pm on Thursday and the registration office was closed but our check in packet was left in a box on the outside of the registration building for us to grab upon arrival. We pulled around to campsite 212, located towards the back of the campground, and quickly noticed how clean and cozy the campground was.
The KOA offered deluxe cabins , primitive campsites as well as Elite, Red Carpet and premium campsites with features that include a fire ring, cable, water, electric and sewer depending on what site you pick out.
No matter where your site is located, the fully stocked camp store, swimming pools and pavilion are just a short stroll from your campsite! During our stay they offered movies at the pavilion for the kids on Friday and Saturday night.
And if you didn’t know already the Richmond North Kings Dominion KOA is located right next door to Kings Dominion and they even offer free shuttle service to and from the park.
We enjoyed our mini vacay to the KOA and will definitely be back when we go to Kings Dominion.
